Life Story for Carol Ann Morello

Remembering Carol........
On Monday night, November 6, at approximately 10:45 p.m., my forever friend, Carol, passed away. There is a hole in my heart that cannot ever be filled again. It is not that I wasn't expecting it. In fact, I have been preparing for this for months. Yes, there is always hope, but the diagnosis and her symptoms had me saying prayers for her that said to God, "Thy will be done". It was her time to be called into Heaven on this day, at this particular time.
I met Carol 40 years ago through another mutual friend of ours, Dianne Baker. Her husband, Bob, was involved in the Indian Guide Program through our local YMCA in Palatine. We were walking to the park one evening when the Baker's saw us and we went over to visit. Our boys went off playing together while Bob was basically recruiting Wayne to join this program involving sons and fathers together. We thought what a wonderful idea and planned to go to the first meeting, but I needed to sew Dale a vest that would be worn by the boys and was used to sew their badges on it. Bob said he had a couple of neighbors also joining so that sounded so good that our son would actually be involved with families in our neighborhood and in the same school.
Dianne had the pattern for this vest and gave it to me. A couple of days later as I was sewing up this vest, a woman by the name of Carol Morello called me. She explained she was Dianne's neighbor and her son, Mike, was joining Indian Guides also and wondered if I was done with the pattern of the vest yet. I was and we made arrangements when Carol would pick it up from my house. Then Carol proceeded to say, "Well, I am hanging up now". And did! I was in shock and didn't know if I did something wrong. I called Dianne and told her what had happened and she laughed it of saying Carol does that all the time and it wasn't something I did or said.
Those words stayed with us during most of our conversations from that moment on. When Carol came for that
pattern, something clicked between us that prompted other calls during the day and that continued on and on.
Friendship formed between us, but it was more than that. We were always honest and forthcoming in our talks. Our talks were filled with laughter- with even belly laughs where your stomach would hurt and you couldn't breathe!
We always joked with each other and we were merciless in our teasing too. We loved it and it showed how much love we had for each other as women, as friends. What a blessing she was in my life!
Even when Carol and her husband decided to move to Indiana, to Colorado, and finally to Tennessee, our
conversations were like where we left off. Always like yesterday. Always picked right up, no matter how much time since our last talk. How I will miss those talks in my life! I was so much better as a person ending those conversations with a smile on my face.

Our families became good friends. Wayne and I, Carol and Jim did many things together as couples too. What a fun time we had when we joined the Winston Knolls bowling league! We won the Road Rally and had a ball planning the next year's one. Such good times together. Our Field of Dreams get - away was such fun and we can't forget going to the Bed and Breakfast in Montague, Michigan either. What a funny time with the Bakers and Faillas. And who could forget our Las Vegas trip with the Kalisiaks?? Memories - that's what we made together.
Carol was a dear friend - the best! My life won't be the same, but I'm glad she can now cause some chaos up in Heaven with her questions and comments. No More pain though. She put up such a brave fight and gave it her all. She will be missed more than words can say, but so grateful she was always there for me and forever will be.

Yes, Carol, you are "hanging up now" but there will be a forever "Hello" in my heart.
