Elizabeth Wawryzniak, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and wife passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday January 7, 2018 at her home at Meridian Assisted Living in Englewood, CO. Elizabeth lived a long and eventful life. She was born on February 17, 1925 in Eastern Poland. When she was youth, her village was invaded by the Nazis as they advanced toward Russia during World War 2. She and her family were taken forcibly taken to Germany and put into slave labor camps. At the end of the war, she met her husband Walter during a forced march. Walter was also a Polish refuge and they were married in an Allied refugee camp outside Frankfurt, Germany. Elizabeth ana Walter along with their newborn daughter, Christine and Elizabeth's parents, brother and sister all emigrated to Buffalo, NY in 1949. Elizabeth worked as a seamstress in the garment industry for many years. She made baseball caps for all of the major league teams at New Era and men's suits at M While and Company. At M While she met Johnny Carson who came to personally pick up his suits!
After she and Walter retired, they moved to Fredericksburg, VA where they spent many happy years. They couple also lived in Clifton Park, NY outside Albany. They moved to Colorado in 2011 to be near their son Richard. Walter passed away in 2012 after nearly 60 years of marriage.
