Obituary for Corrine Ann Meyers

Corrine Ann Meyers
Corrine Ann Meyers was born in Duluth, Minnesota on May 6, 1931 to Reginald Srigley and Evelyn Srigley (born Evelyn Petersen) and passed away February 3, 2018 at the Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center with her daughter Nancy by her side. She put herself through college at the University of Minnesota and became a teacher, taking a teaching job in Colorado after college. She married her first husband, Joseph, and had her beloved daughter, Laura. Tragically, Laura was born deaf and with a heart defect caused by exposure to the Rubella virus through a child in Corrine’s class while Corrine was pregnant, and Laura died during open heart surgery at 4 years old. Corrine and Joseph divorced and, while Corrine was completing a Masters in Education at the University of Denver, Corrine married her second husband, Lieving, and had another daughter, Nancy, when Corrine was 45 years old. Laura’s memory was kept alive by Corrine and Nancy visiting her grave and planting flowers at Fairmount every year. Corrine started an in-home daycare and then opened a daycare center and preschool in Conifer, Colorado, which she ran for over 25 years. Corrine loved animals and had many animals over the years, including several dogs (2 were half wolf), cats and burros. German Shepherds were her favorite breed of dog. Corrine also loved children, especially babies. She was fiercely independent, incredibly strong, very outspoken, direct, funny, and also full of tenderness and compassion. She was an amazing mother and being a mother was her number one job. She could not stand to watch animals or people suffer. She ran her child care center as a single mother after she divorced Lieving, and she did not stop working until she was 78 years old. She was an extremely avid reader, liked to draw and loved the ocean, mountains, and nature. She also loved playing mahjong with friends. She did not go gently into old age and fought to maintain as much independence as possible. Her greatest joy in her later years was getting to have her first grandchildren, fraternal twin boys, live in the same house as her from their birth until her death when they were 9 months old. Corrine is a beloved mother and grandmother who is deeply missed. She will always be the “mama bear” to her daughter and grandsons. Her urn will be buried next to her daughter, Laura, at Fairmount Cemetery on July 7, 2018 at 10:30am.

In addition to her daughter Nancy, and grandsons Ralph and Logan, Corrine is survived by her son-in-law Bill, her brother Dale, sister-in-law Andrea, nephew Erik, niece Elizabeth, and great-nieces Ruby and Jo Jo.
