Obituary for Jacqueline E. Carr

Jacqueline Eloise Carr, lovingly known to family as Pumpkin, and to friends as Jackie, passed away
January 9, 2019 at 76 years old, in Colorado Springs, Colorado due to complications of the rare neurological disease, Multiple System Atrophy with Parkinson’s. She was born June 25, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Aaron and Bettie Williams. Jacqueline was a devoted mother and a supportive friend. She worked hard to support her three children and was willing to share everything she had with family, friends, and strangers alike. She wasn't a woman of many words, but she was tough and unwavering in her principles. She radiated strength but had a soft vulnerable side. A mother to all; she quietly taught values of honesty, accountability, discipline, respect, hard work, family and unconditional love. She changed several lives and touched countless hearts. Jackie had a love for self-expression and creativity. Where most saw junk, she always found treasure. There wasn’t much that she couldn’t build, design or restore. She was a talented artist who would draw, write stories, poems and songs. In addition to writing the songs, she would also arrange the music, and lend her powerful vocals. Her creativity extended to her love of cooking, swapping recipes and putting her own twist on them. She understood that cooking with love could bring the family to the table to set aside their differences.

Although Pumpkin relished being surrounded by her family and friends; laughing, playing cards, dominoes, gambling, and eating, getting together with her 11 brothers and sisters to sing always held a very special place in her heart. It was her way of honoring her parents and reminiscing about her childhood memories. Mom was a unique traveler, always a fearless explorer looking for new adventures. But she was afraid to drive or fly on her own, so she traveled locally and across the country by bus and embraced the freedom and independence it gave her. True to the slogan, “have a Coke and a smile”, mom loved to end a hard day by putting her feet up and relaxing with a puzzle and a Coke. With all that filled her life with love, the Christmas season gave her the most joy. Her methodical shopping list would begin months in advance so she could spend the time to ensure that each gift was wrapped beautifully. Every year she would produce a perfectly decorated tree. Each ornament hung straight and evenly spaced. The smell of homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and peanut butter cookies always lingered in the air. She taught us that Christmas has never been about receiving, but was about laughter, giving, sharing, love, family, and tradition. She played a pivotal role in everyone’s life and will be missed every day of the year.
