Obituary for Dorothy M. Larson

Dorothy M. Larson
Dorothy Larson was born in Denver, Colorado on July 25 1925 and went to heaven via Seattle, Washington on August 20, 2017. She is survived by her son Kevin and his wife Michele, her daughter Kim and husband Jim, her two granddaughters Kirsten and husband Raphael and Kelly. Her nieces and nephews and their families - Dawn, Cindy, Karen, Dick and Dan.

Dorothy was born Dorothy Mary Moore to Roy A. Moore and Ethel Pearl Moore. She was one of 5 children along with her sisters Shirley and Margaret, and brothers Jack and Roy also known as “Buddy.”

On September 21st 1947 Dorothy married Del Larson, nicknamed ‘Swede’, by Dorothy’s older brother Jack. In 1955 they moved from Denver to Helena, Montana where they raised their two children, Kevin and Kim.
Together, Dorothy and Del transcended the challenges of growing up during the Great Depression. They worked hard to provide their children with opportunities and resources that were not available to them during that era.
Family was the center of Dorothy’s life. She was put on this earth as a source of love, encouragement, nurturing and inspiration to her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother providing an endlessness love, support and wisdom to her family. She was constantly focused on the well-being of each person in her family.
Dorothy made every holiday special for her family – Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, birthdays. She created new traditions as well as carried on existing family traditions – Christmas cookies – spritz, snowballs and family fudge. Perfectly decorated Christmas trees, Easter baskets full of Russel Stover’s chocolate as well as home-made Easter bunny cakes. It is no wonder there is still so much excitement and anticipation in the family gatherings at the holidays today.
After Del passed in 1988, Dorothy kept living life and staying connected to family and friends. She traveled to Norway, Sweden, Hawaii, and Hong Kong. She never remarried nor had other romantic relationships.
She picked up golf in the early 1980’s and continued to love and enjoy it into her early 80’s. Golf was a fruitful social outlet for many years and a way for Dorothy to appreciate time outdoors while focusing on her own development as a person. During her time in Seattle and as she entered hospice, the Golf channel provided many hours of high quality entertainment for Dorothy who could still envision herself playing the game.
Dorothy attended the Mile Hi Church. She was committed to attending service each week throughout her summers and during the winter when she was able and confident to drive the roads. Mile Hi was a home for her spiritual nurturing where she enjoyed the special music, ambiance of the chapel and positive messages of the sermons.
Dorothy loved her lifelong friends like the Roses, Cooksons, Wallicks, and Carpenters.

The gifts Dorothy left us were positive thinking, to be kind to everyone, believe in yourself, always encourage others AND - Always look your best when you go out because you don’t know whose mother you will run into! 😊

A Special thanks for cousin Karen for helping Dorothy when she was at Orchard Park in Denver and special thanks to Cindy for her love and care of mom – making it possible to stay in her beloved sunny Colorado.
