Obituary for Robert G. Buffalow

Robert G. Buffalow
Obituary for Robert Buffalow

Our beloved husband and father, Robert “Bob” Gene Buffalow, 83, of Lakewood, CO passed away, Sunday, November 12, 2017. He will be dearly missed by both family and friends.

He was born to the late Clarence & Myrtle Swearingin Buffalow, June 5, 1934 in Pueblo, CO. Bob attended Centennial High School in Pueblo.

Bob married Claudine Moore Spear on August 25, 1961 in Pueblo, Colorado where they made their home. They were married 55 years. Claudine preceded Bob in death passing away in November 2016.

Bob worked for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad and was transferred to Helper, Utah in 1964. The family lived and made their home in Price, Utah. Bob & Claudine had two sons: Douglas Clarence Buffalow who was born in Pueblo, CO & David Robert Buffalow who was born in Price, UT. Claudine had two sons from a previous marriage: Robert “Bobby” Wayne Spear and Mark Daniel Spear.

The family moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 1972 and has lived in the area since then, except for Bob’s 3-year temporary assignment with the railroad in Steamboat Springs, CO from 1974 to 1977.

Bob began his railroad career with the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in June of 1953 as a Fireman. On Dec 18, 1953 Bob enlisted in the Army and was discharged on November 30, 1955. He served for a time in the Korean War spending most of his time on a PT Boat.

Bob returned to the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad after his military service where he worked his way to Engineer, Road Foreman, Trainmaster, and finally finished his career as Superintendent of Air Brakes. Bob retired in 1989 after working 36 years for the railroad.

Bob had many passions - he loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing and more than anything his cabin in the mountains on Morrison Creek - where he served as the “official self-appointed mayor”. When he was unable to be at his beloved cabin, he spent his time working on projects in his woodshop at home. Hundreds of people have one of his super deluxe can crushers. He also made rocking horses, cribs, gun cabinets, clocks by the dozens and many more fun projects.

Bob was generous with his time and talents. Bob and his friends from the Elks Club formed the Ajax Gang who used their skills to help many people in need.

Bob is survived by his son, David Buffalow of Lakewood, CO who has 2 of his grandchildren: Nicole & Zachery Buffalow. Bob is also survived by Claudine’s son Mark (Karen) Spear of Spokane Valley, WA who have 5 of his grandchildren: Emily (Kirt) Christensen of Spokane Valley, WA; Ryan (Angela) Spear of Meridian, ID; Jessy (Josh) Madsen of Glenville, NY; Jon (Michelle) Spear of Spokane Valley, WA; and Cameron (Rachel) Spear of Greenacres, WA.

He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren: Tanner, Kathleen, Katie, Brandon, Cody, Garret, Will, Nixon, Lucy, Sadie, Ike, Annie, Jack, Maddie, Ollie, Avery, Scarlett and Ender; and his sister Guida Fonda and her son Gary Fonda of Pueblo, CO. He is preceded in death by his wife Claudine, parents Clarence and Myrtle Buffalow, and two of his sons: Douglas Buffalow & Bobby Spear.

We love and miss you Dad!
