Margery Brocklesby Frick
Margery Brocklesby Frick
1929-2018

Marge was born March 23, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Alice and Roger Williams. She passed away quietly on April 4, 2018 with her family by her side. She had just celebrated her 89th birthday. Marge was the third of three children and grew up in Ohio. She spent summers at her family’s cottage on Kelley’s Island on Lake Erie. Some of Marge’s fondest memories were of her idyllic days on the island, spent swimming, riding bikes and hanging out with her summer friends. After graduating from Sylvania High School, Marge attended Ohio State University for one year and then transferred to Hillsdale College in Michigan. Marge thrived at Hillsdale where she joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, made many life long friends, earned a teaching degree and met and fell in love with her first husband, Kenneth Brocklesby. After marrying in 1952, Marge and Ken moved to the canal zone in Panama, where Ken was stationed. While living in Panama they had many adventures and had their first daughter Beth. When Ken’s time in the service was completed, Marge and Ken decided to move to Denver, Colorado to be near Marge’s sister Fran and her family. They had 3 more daughters, Bryn, Robin and Dale after moving to Denver. Marge and Ken loved everything Colorado. While raising their four daughters they explored every corner of the state. Many happy times were spent with Marge’s sister Fran and her husband Russ and their children Ben, Laura and Abby at their cabin near Grand Lake. Marge’s enthusiasm for Colorado and the outdoors was a gift she passed on to her daughters.
Marge started teaching 3rd grade in the Littleton School District in 1968. She continued her teaching career for 18 years. Friends were the corner stone of her time in the schools and she continued her strong ties with those friends after her retirement in 1986.
In 1983, Ken passed away unexpectedly. 7 years later Marge met and married Herbert Frick. Marge and Herb remained happily married for the remainder of Marge’s life. Together Marge and Herb spent time traveling, both internationally and within the U.S. Marge and Herb shared a passion for antiques and collectibles, and spent many hours discovering hidden gems wherever they traveled. For years, Marge could be found volunteering every Friday at La Cache of Children’s Hospital in Denver, where she could help others find their own treasures. She was proud of the support that the sales from La Cache gave to the hospital.
Family and friends were what sustained Marge. She was a gregarious, enthusiastic, adventurous woman who lived life to the fullest. Marge shared her warm enthusiasm with her 6 grandchildren and lovingly welcomed her 4 great grandchildren into the family. She was sure to attend every birth, graduation, wedding and other milestone. Her warmth and zest for life will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Marge is survived by her husband, Herbert, her brother Roger Williams (Madeline) her four daughters; Beth Brocklesby (Terry Brown), Bryn Brocklesby(Eldon Krugman), Robin Conde (Doug), and Dale Green (Ed), her step-son John Frick, her 6 grandchildren; Brock, Kelly, Zachary (Hollie), Kyle (Whitney), Seth and Madelyn (Rob) and her 4 great grandchildren; Isabella, Evan, Anders and Sara as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Washington Park United Church of Christ on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Address: 400 S. Williams Street, Denver, CO 80209 Donations can be made in Marge’s name to Children’s Hospital Colorado or The Denver Hospice.
